Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "A man was walking on a road when he became extremely thirsty. He found a well, so he went down into it and drank water. When he came out, he saw a dog panting and eating moist earth out of thirst. The man thought, 'This dog is suffering from thirst just as I was.' So he went down into the well, filled his sock with water, held it in his mouth, and climbed out, then gave the dog water to drink. Allah appreciated his action and forgave him." The Companions asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Is there a reward for us in (serving) animals as well?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is a reward for serving every living being with a moist liver."

It is said regarding her: When you tied it up, you neither fed it nor gave it water to drink, nor did you let it go so that it could eat the insects of the earth and save its life."
