It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was the most merciful of all people towards his family. And the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had a son (Ibrahim) who was being breastfed in an area near Madinah. His foster father was a blacksmith, and we used to go to him, while he had warmed and perfumed the house with the smoke of idhkhir grass. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would kiss him and smell him.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and he had a child with him. He began to lovingly embrace the child to his chest. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Do you show mercy and affection to him?” He replied: Yes. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Allah is even more merciful to you than you are to this (child). He is the Most Merciful of all those who show mercy.”
