بَابُ الْعَيَّابِ
Chapter: The Fault-Finder
Hadith 327
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ ظَبْيَانَ، عَنْ أَبِي يَحْيَى حَكِيمِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَلِيًّا يَقُولُ: لاَ تَكُونُوا عُجُلاً مَذَايِيعَ بُذُرًا، فَإِنْ مِنْ وَرَائِكُمْ بَلاَءً مُبَرِّحًا مُمْلِحًا، وَأُمُورًا مُتَمَاحِلَةً رُدُحًا.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: Do not be hasty, do not spread things, and do not disclose secrets, because after you there will be a trial that will put you in difficulty and a long period of tribulations that will overwhelm a person.
Hadith 328
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ أَبِي يَحْيَى، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: إِذَا أَرَدْتَ أَنْ تَذْكُرَ عُيُوبَ صَاحِبِكَ، فَاذْكُرْ عُيُوبَ نَفْسِكَ.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that he said: When you begin to mention the faults of your companion, first take a look at your own faults.
Hadith 329
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مَوْدُودٍ، عَنْ زَيْدٍ مَوْلَى قَيْسٍ الْحَذَّاءِ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، فِي قَوْلِهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: ﴿وَلَا تَلْمِزُوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ﴾ [الحجرات: 11]، قَالَ: لاَ يَطْعَنُ بَعْضُكُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that while explaining the command of Allah Almighty «﴿وَلَا تَلْمِزُوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ﴾» [الحجرات: 11], he said that it means: "Do not revile one another."
Hadith 330
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا دَاوُدُ، عَنْ عَامِرٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو جَبِيرَةَ بْنُ الضَّحَّاكِ قَالَ: فِينَا نَزَلَتْ، فِي بَنِي سَلِمَةَ: ﴿وَلَا تَنَابَزُوا بِالأَلْقَابِ﴾ [الحجرات: 11]، قَالَ: قَدِمَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلَيْسَ مِنَّا رَجُلٌ إِلاَّ لَهُ اسْمَانِ، فَجَعَلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: ”يَا فُلاَنُ“، فَيَقُولُونَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّهُ يَغْضَبُ مِنْهُ.
It is narrated from Abu Jirah bin Dhahhak that the verse of the Noble Qur'an «﴿وَلَا تَنَابَزُوا بِالْأَلْقَابِ﴾» [الحجرات: 11] "Do not call each other by offensive nicknames" was revealed about us, that is, the Banu Salamah. He says that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) came to us, and every man among us had two names. So when the Prophet (peace be upon him) would call someone, "O so-and-so," he would say, "O Messenger of Allah! He gets angry at that name."
Hadith 331
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٍ قَالَ: أخبرنا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ مُقَاتِلٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَكِيمٍ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عِكْرِمَةَ يَقُولُ: لاَ أَدْرِي أَيُّهُمَا جَعَلَ لِصَاحِبِهِ طَعَامًا، ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ أَوِ ابْنُ عَمِّهِ، فَبَيْنَا الْجَارِيَةُ تَعْمَلُ بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ، إِذْ قَالَ أَحَدُهُمْ لَهَا: يَا زَانِيَةُ، فَقَالَ: مَهْ، إِنْ لَمْ تَحُدَّكَ فِي الدُّنْيَا تَحُدُّكَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ، قَالَ: أَفَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَانَ كَذَاكَ؟ قَالَ: إِنَّ اللَّهَ لاَ يُحِبُّ الْفَاحِشَ الْمُتَفَحِّشَ. ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ الَّذِي قَالَ: إِنَّ اللَّهَ لاَ يُحِبُّ الْفَاحِشَ الْمُتَفَحِّشَ.
It is narrated from Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on him), he says that either Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas or Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) invited the other. A slave girl was serving them, so (upon her mistake) one of them said to her: "O adulteress!" The other companion said: "Stop! If she is not punished for this accusation in this world, then in the Hereafter the punishment (for this slander) will be enforced." He said: "What do you say if she really is like that?" The other companion replied: "Allah Almighty does not like foul-mouthed and obscene speakers at all." Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said: "Allah Almighty dislikes those who use foul language and speak obscenely."
Hadith 332
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَابِقٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ”لَيْسَ الْمُؤْمِنُ بِالطَّعَّانِ، وَلاَ اللِّعَانِ، وَلاَ الْفَاحِشِ، وَلاَ الْبَذِيءِ.“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), who reports from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: "A believer is not one who curses excessively, is immoral, or uses obscene language."
