بَابُ التَّبَسُّمِ
Chapter: Smiling
Hadith 250
حَدَّثَنِا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، عَنْ قَيْسٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ جَرِيرًا يَقُولُ: مَا رَآنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُنْذُ أَسْلَمْتُ إِلاَّ تَبَسَّمَ فِي وَجْهِي، وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ”يَدْخُلُ مِنْ هَذَا الْبَابِ رَجُلٌ مِنْ خَيْرِ ذِي يَمَنٍ، عَلَى وَجْهِهِ مَسْحَةُ مَلَكٍ“، فَدَخَلَ جَرِيرٌ.
It is narrated from Qais that I heard Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) say: Ever since I embraced Islam, whenever the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw me, he smiled at me. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A man will enter through this door who is among the best people of Yemen, and his face is extremely beautiful." Then Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) entered.
Hadith 251
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عِيسَى، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، أَنَّ أَبَا النَّضْرِ حَدَّثَهُ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ يَسَارٍ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَتْ: مَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ضَاحِكًا قَطُّ حَتَّى أَرَى مِنْهُ لَهَوَاتِهِ، إِنَّمَا كَانَ يَتَبَسَّمُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَتْ: وَكَانَ إِذَا رَأَى غَيْمًا أَوْ رِيحًا عُرِفَ فِي وَجْهِهِ، فَقَالَتْ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّ النَّاسَ إِذَا رَأَوُا الْغَيْمَ فَرِحُوا، رَجَاءَ أَنْ يَكُونَ فِيهِ الْمَطَرُ، وَأَرَاكَ إِذَا رَأَيْتَهُ عُرِفَتْ فِي وَجْهِكَ الْكَرَاهَةُ؟ فَقَالَ: ”يَا عَائِشَةُ، مَا يُؤْمِنِّي أَنْ يَكُونَ فِيهِ عَذَابٌ؟ عُذِّبَ قَوْمٌ بِالرِّيحِ، وَقَدْ رَأَى قَوْمٌ الْعَذَابَ مِنْهُ فَقَالُوا: ﴿هَذَا عَارِضٌ مُمْطِرُنَا﴾ [الأحقاف: 24].“
It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that I never saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) laugh in such a way that his throat became visible. He (peace be upon him) would only smile. Whenever he (peace be upon him) saw clouds or a windstorm, worry would become apparent on his face. She says that I asked: O Messenger of Allah! People become happy when they see clouds, hoping that it will rain, but I see that when you see clouds, signs of displeasure appear on your face? He (peace be upon him) replied: "O Aisha! What assurance do I have that there is not a punishment in it? A people were punished with a severe wind, and when that people saw the punishment, they said: This is a cloud that will bring us rain."
