بَابُ الْعَفْوِ وَالصَّفْحِ عَنِ النَّاسِ
Chapter: Forgiving and Pardoning People
Hadith 243
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، أَنَّ يَهُودِيَّةً أَتَتِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِشَاةٍ مَسْمُومَةٍ، فَأَكَلَ مِنْهَا، فَجِيءَ بِهَا، فَقِيلَ: أَلاَ نَقْتُلُهَا؟ قَالَ: ”لَا“، قَالَ: فَمَا زِلْتُ أَعْرِفُهَا فِي لَهَوَاتِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that a Jewish woman brought a roasted goat laced with poison to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ate from it. Then the woman was brought (before him) and it was said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Shall we not kill her?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No!" Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I continued to see the effects of the poison on the throat of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
Hadith 244
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلامٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ، عَنْ وَهْبِ بْنِ كَيْسَانَ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ الزُّبَيْرِ يَقُولُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ: ﴿خُذِ الْعَفْوَ وَأْمُرْ بِالْعُرْفِ وَأَعْرِضْ عَنِ الْجَاهِلِينَ﴾ [الأعراف: 199]، قَالَ: وَاللَّهِ مَا أَمَرَ بِهَا أَنْ تُؤْخَذَ إِلاَّ مِنْ أَخْلاَقِ النَّاسِ، وَاللَّهِ لَآخُذَنَّهَا مِنْهُمْ مَا صَحِبْتُهُمْ.
It is narrated from Wahb bin Kaysan (may Allah have mercy on him) that I heard Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with them both) recite this verse on the pulpit: «﴿خُذِ الْعَفْوَ وَأْمُرْ بِالْعُرْفِ وَأَعْرِضْ عَنِ الْجَاهِلِينَ﴾» [الأعراف: 199] "Show forgiveness, enjoin what is good, and turn away from the ignorant." Then he said: By Allah, this verse was revealed regarding people's manners. By Allah, as long as I have dealings with people, I will certainly act upon its command.
Hadith 245
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلامٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلِ بْنِ غَزْوَانَ، عَنْ لَيْثٍ، عَنْ طَاوُسٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ”عَلِّمُوا وَيَسِّرُوا وَلاَ تُعَسِّرُوا، وَإِذَا غَضِبَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَسْكُتْ.“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Teach the people, deal with them gently and do not make things difficult. When any one of you becomes angry, he should remain silent."
