It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the illness of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) became severe, he said: "O Ali! Bring me a piece of paper so that I may write something by which my Ummah will be saved from going astray." Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I feared that before I could bring the paper, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) might pass away, so I said: I will remember it myself. At that time, the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) head was between my arms. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) advised regarding prayer, zakat, and treating slaves well, and while saying this, he passed away. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed to say «لَاإِلٰهَإِلَّااللهُوَأَنَّمُحَمَّدًاعَبْدُهُوَرَسُوْلُهُ» and said: "Whoever bears witness to both of these, the fire of Hell is forbidden for him."
