It is narrated from Sayyiduna Marrah bin Amr Fihri, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "I and the one who takes care of an orphan will be in Paradise like this (like the finger of shahada and the one next to it) or like this and this finger (side by side)." Sufyan was uncertain whether the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, indicated with the middle finger and the one next to the thumb (as to which fingers he pointed with).

It is narrated from Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) that an orphan used to eat with Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both). One day he ordered food, then called the orphan but did not find him present. When he finished eating, the orphan arrived. Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) requested food for him again, but there was no food left with them, so the servant brought sattu (barley flour) and honey. Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "Eat this, by Allah! You have not suffered any loss." Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) used to say: "By Allah! Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) also did not suffer any loss."
