بَابُ الاَدْنَى فَالادْنَى مِنَ الْجِيرَانِ
Chapter: The Nearest of Neighbors First
Hadith 109
حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ حُرَيْثٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ مُوسَى، عَنِ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، أَنَّهُ سُئِلَ عَنِ الْجَارِ، فَقَالَ: أَرْبَعِينَ دَارًا أَمَامَهُ، وَأَرْبَعِينَ خَلْفَهُ، وَأَرْبَعِينَ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ، وَأَرْبَعِينَ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ.
It is narrated from Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) that he was asked about the neighbor, so he said: "Forty houses in front, forty houses behind, forty houses to the right, and forty houses to the left (all) are neighbors."
Hadith 110
حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَلْقَمَةُ بْنُ بَجَالَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ: وَلاَ يَبْدَأُ بِجَارِهِ الأَقْصَى قَبْلَ الأَدْنَى، وَلَكِنْ يَبْدَأُ بِالأَدْنَى قَبْلَ الأَقْصَى.
Alqamah bin Bajalah said: I heard Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) say: (In giving and taking), do not start with the distant neighbor while leaving the nearby one; rather, begin with the nearest one (in giving gifts, etc.) instead of the distant one.
