بَابُ بِرِّ الأَبِ لِوَلَدِهِ

Chapter: The Father's Dutifulness to His Child

Hadith 94
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ مَخْلَدٍ، عَنْ عِيسَى بْنِ يُونُسَ، عَنِ الْوَصَّافِيِّ، عَنْ مُحَارِبِ بْنِ دِثَارٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ‏:‏ إِنَّمَا سَمَّاهُمُ اللَّهُ أَبْرَارًا، لأَنَّهُمْ بَرُّوا الْآبَاءَ وَالأَبْنَاءَ، كَمَا أَنَّ لِوَالِدِكَ عَلَيْكَ حَقًّا، كَذَلِكَ لِوَلَدِكَ عَلَيْكَ حَقٌّ‏.‏
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), he said: Allah Almighty has named them (in the Qur'an) as "the righteous" (Abrar), because they showed kindness to their forefathers and their children. Just as your parents have a right over you, so too do your children have a right over you.
