‘Ubada Zarqi says: I was sitting with ‘Amr bin ‘Uthman in the mosque of Madinah when, during this time, Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah bin Salam passed by us, leaning on his nephew, and, ignoring our gathering, went ahead. Then compassion arose in his heart, so he returned to us and said: O ‘Amr bin ‘Uthman! Do whatever you wish, he repeated this two or three times. By the One Who sent Muhammad (peace be upon him) with the truth, this matter is certainly in the Book of Allah, he repeated this twice: “Do not cut off relations with the one who was connected to your father, otherwise (as a punishment for this neglect) Allah will take away your light.”
