It is narrated from Abdur Rahman bin Razeen (may Allah have mercy on him) that we passed by the place of Rabdhah, and we were informed that Sayyiduna Salamah bin Akwa’ (may Allah be pleased with him) was residing there. We went to him and greeted him with salam. Then he extended both his hands and said: I pledged allegiance to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) with these two hands. He extended his large, heavy palm, and it was as big as a camel’s palm. We got up towards it and kissed it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues: Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullah states that kissing the hand of a religious scholar or elder out of respect is permissible with three conditions: ➊ It should not be made a habit, because this was done only rarely with the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. ➋ There should be no fear that the scholar or elder will fall into arrogance; if such a fear exists, then it is impermissible. ➌ The Sunnah of shaking hands (musafahah) should not be abandoned because of it. If the above conditions are fulfilled, then there is no harm in kissing the hand. (Sahih al-Adab al-Mufrad)
