Hadith 962

Narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was passing through the market by way of the upper part of the city, and people were on both sides of him. He passed by a dead goat kid with cut ears. He took hold of its ear and said: “Who among you would like to buy this for one dirham?” The people said: “We would not like it for anything; and what would we do with it?” He said: “Would you like to have it for free?” They said: “No.” He said this to them three times, and they said: “By Allah, no. Even if it were alive, it would be defective, for its ears are cut, and now it is dead, so who would take it?” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “By Allah! Verily, the world is more worthless to Allah than this is to you.”
