Hadith 936

Makhool Azdi (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I was sitting beside Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) when a man sitting in the corner of the mosque sneezed. Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: «يرحمك الله» if you have said «الحمد للہ».

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
The chain of narration of this report is weak; in it, the narrator ‘Ammarah ibn Zadhan is weak. And in the marfu‘ (attributed to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) ahadith, it is explicitly stated that it is obligatory upon the one who hears a sneeze to respond, and it is not obligatory to respond to one who does not say “alhamdulillah.”
