It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “A Muslim has six rights over another Muslim.” It was asked: O Messenger of Allah! What are they? He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “When you meet him, greet him with salam; when he invites you, accept his invitation; when he seeks your advice, give him sincere advice; when he sneezes and says «الحمد للہ», respond to his sneeze; when he falls ill, visit him; and when he dies, attend his funeral.”

Explanation & Benefits

Benefits and Issues: In this narration, it is explicitly stated that if the one who sneezes says "alhamdulillah," then it is obligatory to respond to him. The statement "A Muslim has six rights over another Muslim" makes their obligation clear. Furthermore, in this context, most of the verbs are in the imperative form, and the original rule regarding an imperative is that it establishes obligation. Yes, if there is an external indicator diverting from obligation, that is another matter, but in this context, there is no such indicator.
