It is narrated from Sayyiduna Bara’ bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) commanded us to do seven things and forbade us from seven things. He commanded us to visit the sick, to attend funerals, to respond to one who sneezes, to fulfill the oath of one who swears, to help the oppressed, to greet everyone with salam, and to accept the invitation of one who invites. And he forbade us from (using) gold rings, silver vessels, red silk cushions, Qass (a type of silk cloth from a region), Istabraq (thick silk), fine silk, and pure silk.

Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues: ➊ In this narration as well, the mutual rights of Muslims are mentioned, and among the things that are prohibited, some are forbidden (haram) for men, while some are impermissible (najaz) for both men and women. A gold ring is impermissible for men and permissible for women. Similarly, all types of silk are permissible for women and impermissible for men. However, gold and silver utensils are forbidden (haram) for both men and women.
➋ Red silk cushions were used as adornment, which people would use as saddle cloths for horses or to spread underneath.
