Hadith 902

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: "While a shepherd was among his sheep, a wolf attacked and seized a sheep. The shepherd chased after it, and the wolf turned to him and said: 'On the day when wild beasts will rule and I will be their shepherd in place of anyone else, who will protect them then?' The people said: 'Glory be to Allah!' The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'I believe in this, and so do Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Umar (may Allah be pleased with him).'"

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
➊ There is no doubt regarding the wolf speaking and such an incident occurring. Allah, the Exalted, can grant animals the ability to speak. This is the very matter of faith that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam mentioned when the people, expressing amazement, said "Subhan Allah."
➋ From this, the virtue of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Umar radi Allahu anhuma is also established, as the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam testified to their faith in their absence.
➌ "The Day of the Beast" (Yawm al-Sab‘) refers to the day when all animals will be left idle and people, due to being afflicted by tribulations, will become heedless of their wealth.
