Narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she said: A Bedouin came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: Do you kiss your children? We do not kiss them. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "What can I do if Allah has removed mercy from your heart?"

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues: ➊ The more ignorant a person is and the more deprived he is of the knowledge of Allah, the harsher his temperament will be. The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) had the greatest knowledge of Allah, and therefore he was the most compassionate. Despite being at such an exalted rank, he not only showed love and kindness to his own children but also to the children of others. He would greet them as he passed by. When returning from a journey, he would seat them with him on his mount. He would joke with them. All these actions are only possible on the basis of mercy and compassion, and this is a special favor and grace from Allah, the Exalted.
➋ Loving small children and kissing them is recommended (mustahabb). By doing so, a person becomes deserving of Allah’s mercy. It should be remembered that the cause of this affection should be compassion and mercy; if its cause is lust, then it is a punishable sin.
