Hadith 893

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was sitting in the courtyard of his house in Makkah Mukarramah when Sayyiduna Uthman bin Maz'un (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by and looked at the Prophet (peace be upon him) with a smile. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said to him, "Will you not sit down?" He replied, "Why not." Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) sat down in front of him. He was talking to the Prophet (peace be upon him) when suddenly the Prophet (peace be upon him) raised his gaze towards the sky and said, "Just now, while you were sitting, Allah's messenger (the angel) came to me." He asked, "Then what did he say to you?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "He said: «إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَأْمُرُ بِالْعَدْلِ وَالْإِحْسَانِ وَإِيتَاءِ ذِي الْقُرْبَىٰ وَيَنْهَىٰ عَنِ الْفَحْشَاءِ وَالْمُنْكَرِ وَالْبَغْيِ ۚ يَعِظُكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ» [النحل: 90] Verily, Allah commands justice, excellence, and giving to close relatives, and forbids indecency, evil, and transgression. He admonishes you so that you may take heed." Uthman says: From that moment, faith was established in my heart and I began to love Muhammad (peace be upon him).
