It is narrated from Muhammad ibn al-Hanafiyyah, may Allah have mercy on him, that he said: A person who cannot avoid mixing with certain people, and does not behave well with them, is not wise or intelligent. He should continue to get along with those whom it is necessary to live with, until Allah provides a way out for him.

Explanation & Benefits

Benefits and Issues: The point is that with those family members, friends, and servants, etc., with whom one has to live all the time, even if one does not get along with them, a person should exercise patience and manage matters in a good manner. There is no benefit in creating tension. Until an alternative solution becomes apparent, a person should manage cheerfully. The best principle for living a peaceful life is that, with whom you cannot contend, extend the hand of friendship towards them.
