It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: It is enough for a man to be considered a liar that he narrates everything he hears.
The narrator says that, in my opinion, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) also said: Is there not protection from lying for a Muslim in adopting indirect speech?

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues: ➊ The first statement of Sayyiduna Umar radi Allahu anhu is also narrated in a marfu‘ (attributed to the Prophet) form, as Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu narrated from the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. (Al-Sahihah by Al-Albani, Hadith: 2025) ➋ Whoever relates every heard statement also transmits lies, even if he does not do so intentionally; nevertheless, he is still conveying a lie, and the one who reports something contrary to reality is indeed a liar. ➌ If the purpose of using indirect speech (ta‘reedh) is to convey something contrary to reality, then there remains no difference between it and lying.
