Hadith 880

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ، قَالَ‏:‏ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ قَالَ‏:‏ كَانَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ يَضْرِبُ وَلَدَهُ عَلَى اللَّحْنِ‏.‏
It is narrated from Nafi' (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to beat his son for reciting incorrectly.

The mistake in articulation points is called "lahn." Children may be given disciplinary punishment for incorrect pronunciation, etc. It is also understood from this that the Companions (radi Allahu anhum) used to pay great attention to the teaching of the Noble Qur’an.
