It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the command of Allah Almighty: «وَالشُّعَرَاءُيَتَّبِعُهُمُالْغَاوُونَ أَلَمْتَرَأَنَّهُمْفِيكُلِّوَادٍيَهِيمُونَ وَأَنَّهُمْيَقُولُونَمَالَايَفْعَلُونَ إِلَّاالَّذِينَآمَنُواوَعَمِلُواالصَّالِحَاتِوَذَكَرُوااللَّهَكَثِيرًا»[الشعراء: 224-227] has been abrogated by Allah Almighty, and the believers have been exempted from it, and He said: "Except for those who believe (and do good deeds and remember Allah abundantly...) they are to return."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues: The meaning of the statement of Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (radi Allahu anhuma) is that not every poet is in this condition. The people of faith are exempt from this condemnation because they spend most of their time in the remembrance of Allah. Their predominant time is not spent in poetry.
