Hadith 859

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Aswad bin Sari’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that I submitted: O Messenger of Allah! I have said a few words in praise of my Lord. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Why not, your Lord loves praise.” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not say anything more than this.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
The point is that praising and glorifying Allah, if done in poetry, is also permissible, and such poetry will be based on wisdom. The fact that the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) did not prohibit it is evidence that reciting poetry containing praise and glorification is permissible.
