Saeed bin Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his grandfather Huzn bin Wahb (may Allah be pleased with him) that he presented himself before the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), so the Prophet (peace be upon him) asked: "What is your name?" He said: Huzn. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Your name is Sahl." He said: I will not change the name that my father has given me. Saeed bin Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) said: After that, sadness has always remained among us.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues: ➊ The meaning of "Huzn" is sorrow and distress that clings to a person. Semantically, this name conveys a sense of bad omen and does not give a positive impression; therefore, the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) changed this name. ➋ Huzn bin Wahb, due to his lack of knowledge and harsh temperament, refrained from acting upon the Prophet’s (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) instruction. As a consequence, Allah Almighty kept harshness and sorrowfulness in his lineage forever. ➌ One should not keep the name "Huzn," and if someone does keep this name and then sorrow and melancholy appear in his character, he should blame himself. It is also necessary to avoid other such names.
