It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) separated himself from his wives, (I went to the house of the Prophet, peace be upon him). Suddenly, I saw the servant of the Messenger of Allah, Rabah, so I called out to him: O Rabah! Seek permission for me to go to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

Hadith Takhrij«حسن : أخرجه مطولًا مسلم : 1479 و البخاري : 2468 لكن ليس عنده ذكر اسم الغلام»
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues: ➊ The point of reference in this narration is that the name of the Messenger of Allah’s (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) servant was Rabah, and he (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) did not change it; therefore, it is permissible to keep this name. ➋ When the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) swore an oath not to go to his wives for a whole month, it became widely known among the people that he had divorced his wives. Sayyiduna Umar (radi Allahu anhu), in order to verify this, first went to the house of his daughter Hafsah (radi Allahu anha), then went to the upper room where the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was staying, and sought permission to enter, the mention of which has been briefly stated in the aforementioned hadith.
