بَابُ تَحْوِيلِ اسْمِ عَاصِيَةَChapter: Changing the Name "Asiya"
Hadith 820

حَدَّثَنَا صَدَقَةُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْقَطَّانُ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ غَيْرَ اسْمَ عَاصِيَةَ وَقَالَ: ”أَنْتِ جَمِيلَةُ.“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) changed the name of ‘Asiyah and said: “You are Jameelah (beautiful).”

Benefits and Issues:
Who this ‘Asiyah was, there are differing opinions regarding it. According to some, she was the daughter of Sayyiduna Ibn ‘Umar radi Allahu anhuma. Some have said she was the daughter of Sayyiduna ‘Umar radi Allahu anhu, and according to others, she was the wife of Sayyiduna ‘Umar radi Allahu anhu and the daughter of Thabit.
