Hadith 819

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الْمُقَدَّمِيُّ، قَالَ‏:‏ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ الْقُرَشِيُّ، قَالَ‏:‏ حَدَّثَنَا ذَيَّالُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ حَنْظَلَةَ قَالَ‏:‏ حَدَّثَنِي جَدِّي حَنْظَلَةُ بْنُ حِذْيَمَ قَالَ‏:‏ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُعْجِبُهُ أَنْ يُدْعَى الرَّجُلُ بِأَحَبِّ أَسْمَائِهِ إِلَيْهِ، وَأَحَبِّ كُنَاهُ‏.‏
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Hanzalah bin Huzaym (may Allah be pleased with him), he said that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) liked that a person should be called by his most beloved name and his most beloved kunyah.

The chain of narration of this report is weak. However, if someone becomes known by a name which he dislikes, then instead of calling him by that name, he should be addressed by another name which he prefers.
