Hadith 809

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ”لَا يَقُولَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ: خَبُثَتْ نَفْسِي، وَلَكِنْ لِيَقُلْ: لَقِسَتْ نَفْسِي.“
Narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "None of you should say, 'My soul has become impure,' but rather say, 'My soul has become disturbed.'"

Benefits and Issues:
Although "khubth" and "luqsa" are synonymous in meaning, due to the apparent offensiveness of the word "khabeeth," the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam disliked its usage.
