It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I did not see the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) dedicate his parents to anyone after Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him). I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: “Shoot the arrow, may my parents be sacrificed for you.”

Explanation & Benefits

Benefits and Issues: ➊ From this, it is understood that just as it is correct to say, "May I be sacrificed for you," it is also permissible to say, "May my parents be sacrificed for you." This is said at the time of someone's great achievements or in recognition of their greatness and love. ➋ Sayyiduna Ali (radi Allahu anhu) said this according to his knowledge; otherwise, the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) also expressed the sacrificing of his parents for Sayyiduna Zubair (radi Allahu anhu) on the day of the Battle of Khandaq. (Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith: 3720) ➌ This hadith establishes the virtue of Hazrat Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (radi Allahu anhu). On the occasion of the Battle of Uhud, the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) emptied his quiver before Sa'd and expressed the aforementioned statement to him.
