Hadith 803

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went towards Baqi‘ and I also walked behind him. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) turned and, seeing me, said: “O Abu Dharr!” I replied: I am present and ready to comply with your command, and may I be sacrificed for you. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Those who possess much wealth will be the ones in loss on the Day of Resurrection, except those who spend it like this and like this in the way of truth.” I said: Allah and His Messenger know best. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used the words “like this” three times. Then the Uhud mountain appeared before us, so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “O Abu Dharr?” I replied: O Messenger of Allah! I am present and ready to comply with your command, and may I be sacrificed for you. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “It does not please me that the mountain of Uhud be turned into gold for the family of Muhammad and that by evening even a single dirham or a single mithqal remains with them.” Then a valley appeared before us, so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went ahead. I thought perhaps the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had some need, so I sat at the edge of the valley. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) delayed in returning. He (Abu Dharr) says: I became worried about the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) (lest an enemy had come). Then I heard as if the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was whispering to someone, but the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) returned alone. I asked: O Messenger of Allah! With whom were you whispering? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Did you hear?” I replied: Yes! The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “That was Jibreel. He came to give me the glad tidings that whoever from my Ummah dies without associating anything with Allah will enter Paradise.” I said: Even if he is an adulterer and a thief? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Yes.”
