Hadith 797

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ شَرِيكٍ قَالَ‏:‏ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَقِيلٍ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ طَلْحَةَ، عَنْ أُمِّهِ حَمْنَةَ بِنْتِ جَحْشٍ قَالَتْ‏:‏ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ‏: ”مَا هِيَ‏؟‏ يَا هَنْتَاهُ‏.“
Narrated from Sayyidah Hamnah bint Jahsh (may Allah be pleased with her), she said that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to her: "What is this, O Hintah?"

Benefits and Issues:
The chain of narration of this report is weak. Several meanings of "hintah" have been mentioned. Some have interpreted it as "ya hadhihi," meaning "O such-and-such woman." For men, "ya hinah" is used. Some have said that its meaning is "of little intellect." According to some, it is also used for a woman in general.
