Hadith 796

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by a man who was driving a sacrificial animal. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Ride on it." The man said: "O Messenger of Allah! It is a sacrificial animal." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Ride on it." The man said: "It is a sacrificial animal." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said for the third or fourth time: "Woe to you, ride on it."

Explanation & Benefits

Benefits and Issues:
➊ The benefits of this narration have already been mentioned under Hadith: 772; however, there the words used are "Waylak" instead of "Wayhak."
➋ The difference between "Wayhak" and "Waylak" is that "Wayhak" is said for a person who is not deserving of destruction but has fallen into it, whereas "Waylak" is used for someone who has fallen into destruction and is also deserving of it. According to some, "Wayhak" is used in a rebuke that contains mercy and compassion, while "Waylak" is used where harshness and severity are intended. (Sharh Sahih al-Adab al-Mufrad)
