Hadith 787

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Bara’ bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Spread the greeting of peace, you will live in safety, and idle talk is evil.” Abu Mu’awiyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The meaning of “evil” is “futility.”

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
The point is that you should spread salam (greeting of peace), whether someone knows you or not, because this is a cause of mutual love and affection. Through this, hatred is removed and a person is also protected from severing ties. In one hadith, making salam widespread has been described as a means of entering Paradise. The second point is that idle talk spreads evil, so it should be avoided.
