It is narrated from Abdullah bin Dinar (may Allah have mercy on him), he said: I went to the market with Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), and he passed by a little girl who was singing. He said: If Satan were to leave anyone (from misguidance), he would have left this girl.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues: ➊ Satan is the eternal enemy of mankind, and he uses every possible method to mislead humans. Singing and playing music is also one of his methods, through which he was enticing this girl. ➋ Regarding whether singing, playing music, and musical instruments are forbidden (haram) or permissible (halal), scholars have differing opinions. The preferred view is that playing the duff (a type of drum) and reciting national or communal songs, when performed by minor girls and on occasions such as Eid or weddings, is not objectionable. The narrations that permit this refer to such types of songs. As for those songs that promote indecency and unlawful acts—as is the case with all contemporary songs—they are unanimously considered haram by reputable scholars. ➌ In the present era, singing and music have taken the form of an industry, and professional male and female singers have donned the guise of respectable artists. Every form of indecency spreading in society is indebted to them, so under no circumstances can any legal or moral justification be provided for this. ➍ Those who organize gatherings of listening (sama‘) and dance, and those who call music the food of the soul, are misguided and are committing a forbidden act (haram). If this were a means of obedience to Allah, then the noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum), the eminent Followers (tabi‘in), and the hadith scholars (muhaddithin) would certainly have adopted it. However, there is no evidence in the Qur’an or hadith for its permissibility.
