Hadith 779

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: When any one of you asks someone for his need, he should not exaggerate, because he will only get what is destined for him. None of you should go to his companion and praise him excessively, for in this way he will break his back.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
The meaning of the statement of Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud radi Allahu anhu is that it is permissible to ask someone for something out of necessity, but the manner of asking should be dignified. It is not correct to accumulate wealth by flattery and excessive praise. Because in this way, a person not only destroys his own honor but also becomes further sinful by praising someone to his face.
