It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) distributed the spoils of Hunayn at the place of Ji'ranah, people crowded around him. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah sent a servant of His to a people, and they denied him and wounded him." He was wiping the blood from his forehead and saying: "O Allah, forgive my people, for they do not know." Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: It is as if I am still seeing the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) as he was narrating this, wiping his blessed hand over his forehead.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues: ➊ From this, it is understood that there is no harm in narrating an incident to explain something and demonstrating it practically. This does not fall under the imitation (naqal) that is prohibited. ➋ The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and the previous prophets faced many severe trials, to the extent that their people beat them for the sake of tawhid (monotheism), yet they still prayed for their guidance. ➌ Which prophet was this? This has not been clarified. Some have said that what is meant here is the person of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam himself; that when he was injured on the occasion of inviting the people of Ta’if, he made this supplication.
