It is narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that a man sought permission to visit the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This person is a bad man of his tribe." When he came in, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) received him with a cheerful face. So I asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about this, and he said: "Allah does not like the one who is foul-mouthed and ill-spoken."

Benefits and Issues: The point is that one should not respond to an ill-mannered person with ill speech, because if ignorance is answered with ignorance, then the distinction between good and bad disappears. Furthermore, it is understood from this that to inform people by stating the reality of a person so that others may remain safe from his evil is not backbiting (ghibah), but rather a permissible matter, and at times, doing so becomes obligatory.
