It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to seek refuge from severe calamity, from falling into wretchedness, from the rejoicing of enemies, and from evil judgment.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
➊ One should not ask for trials for the elevation of ranks, as has been mentioned in the previous hadith. However, the position of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr was that when seeking refuge from severe calamity, one should make an exception for such a calamity that becomes a means for the elevation of ranks. But this requires great courage and determination.
➋ If a calamity does befall, then one should supplicate to Allah that He makes it a means for the elevation of ranks. The clarification of the remaining matters has already passed in the previous pages. (See, Hadith: 669)
