حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الأَعْمَشُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي مُجَاهِدٌ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ، قَالَ : يَقُولُ الرَّجُلُ : اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ جَهْدِ الْبَلاءِ ، ثُمَّ يَسْكُتُ ، فَإِذَا قَالَ ذَلِكَ ، فَلْيَقُلْ : إِلا بَلاءً فِيهِ عَلاءٌ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them) that he said: A man says: O Allah! I seek refuge with You from being afflicted with a severe calamity. Then he remains silent. When making this supplication, he should also say: Except for a calamity that is a means of elevation in ranks, that is desirable.
