It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him) that I said: O Messenger of Allah! Teach me a supplication through which I may ask Allah Almighty. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "O Abbas! Ask Allah Almighty for well-being (aafiyah)." After some time had passed, I again came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! Teach me a supplication through which I may ask. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "O Abbas! O uncle of the Messenger of Allah! Ask Allah Almighty for well-being (aafiyah) in this world and the Hereafter."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues: ➊ Being saved from outward and inward calamities and difficulties is well-being (‘afiyah). And in this lies success in this world and the Hereafter. Sayyiduna ‘Abbas radi Allahu anhu considered this supplication to be something minor and requested the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam to teach him another supplication, but the Prophet repeated the same supplication, thereby clarifying its importance. ➋ From this, it is understood that no matter how high a rank a person attains, one should show respect and honor to one’s parents, just as the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam did with his uncle.
