It is narrated from Awsat bin Ismail, may Allah have mercy on him, that after the death of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), I heard Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) say: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood in this very place where I am standing in the first year of Hijrah. Then Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) began to weep, and then said: “Adhere to truthfulness, for it is with righteousness, and both of them lead to Paradise. And beware of lying, for it is with wickedness, and both of them lead to the Fire. And ask Allah for well-being, for after faith and certainty, nothing is better than well-being. Do not sever relations with one another. Do not turn your backs on one another, nor envy or bear malice towards one another, and be, O servants of Allah, brothers to one another.”

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues: ➊ Well-being (‘afiyah) is that Allah, the Exalted, protects His servant from every kind of trial. In other words, to be safe from all kinds of trials and illnesses, to be protected from the evil of people, and for people to be protected from his evil, as well as to be independent of them, is well-being (‘afiyah). When one has well-being, it also becomes easy for a person to act upon the rulings of the religion. Therefore, after faith (iman), the most precious thing is well-being. (Fadl Allah al-Samad) ➋ From this, it is understood how much the noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum) were attached to the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), that they would remember every single action of his. Especially our master Abu Bakr (radi Allahu anhu) had such passionate love for him that when he remembered him, he involuntarily began to weep. ➌ The clarification of the other matters mentioned in the hadith has already been given in the previous pages.
