Hadith 720

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The wind is Allah's mercy. It comes with mercy and with punishment, so do not speak ill of it. Rather, ask Allah for its good, and seek refuge with Allah from its evil."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
➊ The first hadith appears to be mawquf (attributed to a Companion), but it is also established as marfu‘ (attributed to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), as Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullah has detailed in Silsilah al-Sahihah. (Al-Sahihah by al-Albani, no. 2756)

➋ One reason for calling wind “wind” (riyah) is that it brings comfort to people, but at times, due to its intensity and heat, it can also become a source of harm and punishment. Therefore, in undesirable situations, instead of reviling it, one should seek refuge from its evil.

➌ The wind is a creation of Allah Ta‘ala and it is under His command. It moves as it is commanded. Thus, to speak ill of it, for example, saying “may the wind be ruined” or “may the wind be destroyed,” etc., is in fact speaking ill of the One who commanded it.
