Hadith 711

Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whenever a believer turns to Allah and asks for something, Allah grants it to him. Either He gives it to him in this world according to his request, or He stores it for him in the Hereafter, as long as the servant does not become hasty." The Companions asked: O Messenger of Allah! What is haste? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He says: I made supplication, then I made supplication, but I do not see my supplication being accepted."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
➊ A servant’s thinking and his knowledge are extremely limited. That is why he only considers apparent and superficial benefits. If he does not see any apparent gain, he assumes that he is at a loss. However, the Creator of the universe knows the servant’s interests better than he does—what is suitable for them and what is unsuitable—so He gives according to His wisdom.

➋ Just as a sick person is not given everything he desires, likewise Allah Ta’ala does not grant every wish of the one who is “sick with the world”; rather, He only gives what is beneficial for him. Especially in the case of a Muslim, Allah Ta’ala loves him, so He improves his Hereafter more than his worldly life. Therefore, the servant should continue to ask abundantly according to his understanding and should never say that his supplication (du‘a) was not accepted. Rather, he should hope that he has already attained one of the things mentioned in the hadith.

➌ Remember to avoid those obstacles that become a hindrance to the acceptance of supplication (du‘a).
