It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that he said: When you go to a king whom people fear, and you are afraid that he may oppress you, then recite this supplication: "Allah is the Greatest. Allah is mightier than all creation. Allah is even mightier and more powerful than the one whom I fear and dread. I seek refuge with the One besides whom there is no deity, Who holds back the seven heavens from falling upon the earth except by His permission (and if He wills, they will fall), from the evil of Your such-and-such servant, his group, his companions, and his parties, whether they are from among the jinn or mankind. O Allah! Make me a means of protection against their evil. Great is Your praise, and whoever seeks refuge with You is honored, and Your blessed Name is very blessed, and there is no deity except You." Recite this supplication three times.

Explanation & Benefits

Benefits and Issues: The source of all power in the world is the Being of Allah Ta’ala. There is none greater than Him, nor even equal to Him. The tyrants and oppressors of the world hold no significance before Him. Therefore, Muslims are commanded to fear only Allah Ta’ala. However, if natural and instinctive fear arises, and there is apprehension of oppression and tyranny from any human, then one should seek refuge with Allah Ta’ala. The method for this has been mentioned in the aforementioned ahadith: by invoking the greatness and oneness of Allah Ta’ala, one should present one’s helplessness and weakness before Him. He certainly does not disappoint. But the fundamental condition for this is to have firm conviction in Allah Ta’ala.
