Hadith 7

The statement of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) is: Any Muslim whose parents are alive in the state of Islam, and he begins his morning by treating them well, and he does this with the intention of reward, then Allah Almighty opens two doors of Paradise for him. If only one of the parents is alive, then one door is opened. And if he displeases them, then Allah remains displeased with him until they are pleased with him. Someone asked: Even if they wrong him? Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) replied: Even if they wrong him.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
➊ This narration is weak; Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullah has declared it weak. However, from other authentic ahadith it is known that even if parents commit excesses, one should still treat them with good conduct.
➋ Most of the time, parents do not oppress their children, but if they give such an order which a person considers to be excessive or oppressive, he should bear it patiently. As in the narration of Ibn Umar radi Allahu anhu: There was a woman in my marriage whom I loved greatly, but Umar radi Allahu anhu did not like her. He told me to divorce her. I refused, so he went to the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and informed him. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam ordered me to divorce her. (Sahih al-Targhib, Hadith: 2487)
➌ As far as worldly matters are concerned, even if parents commit excesses, one should still treat them with good conduct. However, if parents incite to disobedience of Allah, then obeying them in any way is not permissible, as has been discussed in detail under the first hadith.
