It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him), he said that a man said (in prayer) in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "All praise is for Allah alone, such praise that is very pure and blessed." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Who is the person who uttered these words?" The man remained silent and thought that perhaps he had suddenly said something which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) disliked. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked again: "Who is he? He has indeed spoken rightly." The man said: "I said it, and my intention was also good." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "By Him in Whose hand is my soul, I saw thirteen angels competing with each other as to who among them would take these words up to Allah, the Mighty and Majestic."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues: ➊ This narration is authentic due to other chains and supporting evidences, but the mention of the number of angels is not correct. In the authentic narration, this number is stated as thirty or a little more. ➋ From all the chains, it is understood that this Companion said these words in prayer after "Sami‘ Allahu liman hamidah." And the purpose of the inquiry by the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was to teach the people so that they too would recite these words. ➌ Any action that took place in the presence of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) and he remained silent about it or affirmed it, then it attains the status of a hadith. This is called a tacit (taqrir) hadith. It is not correct to use this as evidence to justify innovations (bid‘ah). Now, we recite this supplication because the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) affirmed it.
