It is narrated from Sayyiduna Mu’adh (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) took my hand and said: “O Mu’adh.” I replied: “I am present.” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Indeed, I love you.” I replied: “By Allah, I also love you.” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Shall I not teach you some words which you should recite after every prayer?” I replied: “Yes, indeed!” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “You should say: O Allah! Help me to remember You, to thank You, and to worship You in the best manner.”
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
➊ From this, it is understood that one should inform the person whom one loves, so that he may fulfill the requirements of that love. The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said that a person should inform the one whom he loves, “I love you.”
➋ Mu’adh (radi Allahu anhu) was extremely fortunate and possessed great virtue, for the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) himself expressed his love for him.
➌ Without the tawfiq (divine enablement) of Allah, a person cannot walk the path of obedience, and without it, the remembrance and worship of Allah are impossible. Reciting this supplication after performing the prayer is to express that the worship I have performed would have been impossible without Your tawfiq, and I have not been able to fulfill its true right. Grant me the tawfiq to make it even better. Furthermore, this tawfiq itself demands further gratitude, for which I also seek tawfiq from You alone.
➍ From this, it is understood that after the obligatory prayer, it is necessary to give importance to the prescribed (masnun) remembrances rather than self-invented litanies.
