Hadith 689

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that he reports from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that he used to supplicate: "O Allah! Forgive my sins, my ignorance, and my exceeding the limits in my affairs. And forgive every sin of mine which You know better than I do. O Allah! Forgive my sins committed in jest and in seriousness, and my mistakes and those committed deliberately, and all these sins I have committed."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
➊ Hafiz Ibn Hajar rahimahullah states that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, in compliance with the command given to him in Surah An-Nasr regarding praise and seeking forgiveness, used to recite this supplication. (Fath al-Bari: 11/198)
➋ In this, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam has taught the Ummah that they should frequently praise Allah and, by acknowledging their sins before Him, continually seek His forgiveness.
➌ Allah grants each person the rank and status for which he is deserving; He alone is the One who gives rise and decline.
