حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي قَيْسٌ ، قَالَ : أَتَيْتُ خَبَّابًا ، وَقَدِ اكْتَوَى سَبْعًا ، وَقَالَ : لَوْلا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَانَا أَنْ نَدْعُوَ بِالْمَوْتِ لَدَعَوْتُ بِهِ .
Sayyiduna Qais (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I came to Sayyiduna Khabbab (may Allah be pleased with him) and at that time he had cauterized himself in seven places on his body. Due to severe pain, he said: If the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had not forbidden praying for death, I would have prayed for death for myself.
