Hadith 686

It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she said: Whenever the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a cloud spread at the edge of the sky, he would leave his work, even if he was in prayer. Then he would turn his attention towards it. If Allah removed it, he would praise Allah, and if it rained, he would say: "O Allah! Make it a heavy and beneficial rain."

Benefits and Issues:
When the punishment descended upon the people of ‘Ad, it was within the clouds. The people thought that it would bring rain, but in fact, it contained punishment. At the time of punishment upon the people of Nuh (Noah), there was also heavy rainfall from the sky. Therefore, whenever the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) saw such a situation, he would become anxious, fearing that perhaps this too might contain punishment, and so he would turn to Allah, seeking forgiveness and repenting to Him. He would supplicate for the rain to be beneficial and advantageous. We too should recite this supplication at such times.
